EMFs (Electro Magnetic Fields) are fields of energy created by electrically charged objects and can be divided into natural and man-made.  Examples of natural EMFs are the Earth’s electromagnetic field, electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG). These are direct current (DC) fields which flow in only one direction.  This is in direct contrast to man-made EMFs which change direction many times every second and are therefore alternating currents (AC) fields.  These man-made EMFs are divided into Low Frequency (LF) and High Frequency - known as Radio Frequency (RF) or Microwaves.

Low Frequency EMFs are produced by the electrical distribution system – generating stations, pylons, electrical wiring, electrical appliances. In the UK the electrical system runs at 50 hertz (cycles per second).

High Frequency EMFs are produced by wireless devices such as mobile phones, cell phone towers, wifi, routers, smart meters, laptops, microwave ovens, baby monitors.

There is a huge body of evidence to demonstrate that exposure to man-made EMFs can cause adverse health effects to the human body.  A great deal of research has linked EMFs to chronic inflammation which, it appears, is a precursor to so many of the modern diseases of civilisation such as leukaemia, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, arthritis, insomnia, depression and so on.  We tend to imagine that these diseases are an inevitable consequence of growing older, but this may not be so.

You can find further details on the effects of EMFs on the body in my ‘Home EMF and Geopathic Stress Survey’ paper.

It is important to remember that the human body is very resilient and rejuvenates itself overnight.  However to do this, and therefore to overcome day time stresses (such as EMF exposure), a good night’s sleep is required.  One of the most important aspects of my EMF Home Survey is therefore to look at the sleeping area and to reduce night-time EMF stress and Geopathic stress (see below).

Geopathic Stress - or harmful earth rays as it is sometimes called - is natural radiation that rises from the earth and is distorted by weak electromagnetic fields created by water veins, fault lines, ground mixing, Curry and Hartmann lines.

Geopathic Stress is very low level radiation and can be measured using a sensitive scintillation counter. Studies by a team of researchers in Austria in 1989 led by Dr Otto Bergsmann on 985 patients demonstrated that Geopathic Stress resulted in measurable bodily changes after only a few minutes exposure. The report concluded that spending time over a Geopathic Stress zone gives rise to similar risk factors as Environmental Chemicals, Poisons and Pollutants, Malnutrition and Electromagnetic Pollution.

Dr Hans Neiper, a widely respected cancer specialist, states in his book 'Revolution in Technology Medicine and Society':

“According to studies I have initiated, at least 92% of cancer patients I have examined have remained for long periods of time, especially in respect of their sleeping place, in geopathically stressed zones.”

This explains why it is especially important to check the sleeping area for Geopathic Stress during a home survey.

This paper explains in more detail what EMFs are and how they affect human health.
